‘Wheeeere?’ often a surprised face expression and a stretched tone. ‘Where are you going to start?’ a dropped jaw and curious eyes. Thoughts are like bees in a beehive, as over the last days we are re-shaping our route continuously, trying to match the parts of a world puzzle. It seems so simple to draw a line on a paper map, quickly crossing over the mountains, swimming the seawaters as they would stretch only couple inches, and passing the borders as they would not exist.
‘Thanks for your efforts sharing adventures on the border crossings, embassies or consulates’ I bow to fellow travelers. Our dream route is going to be reshaped not only to avoid extreme dangers or seek the earthly beauty, but whether we are able to hunt for visas, and how long does this magic process take.
We did not stay long considering which Europe countries we are going to traverse. In Turkey we are planning to collect few visas (i.e. Iran) or so. Georgia, Armenia are about to be our next destination points. Luckily my passport with Israeli visa has already been archived, as I wouldn’t be able to get the magic sticker to enter the gorgeous as travelers often label Iran. The maze follows if we pass this country.
There are lots of discussions around the following routes. Iran, Pakistan, India, China could be our first delicious bite. Flipping through the travelers diaries, it becomes apparent that Pakistan might be a difficult area to tackle due to the possible obstacles getting visa. Then we might need to scrap our India idea too. On the other hand, this land will seek for our attention later in our lives anyways. Its width and depth only suggests the need to come back some time later.
The Silk Road then? Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, China? After my precious aunt told me of Moon mountains in Turkmenistan, I nearly felt like in a fairy tale. However, we are still not totally aware of possibilities to get visas ‘on-a-go’.
Quite a few centuries ago Lithuania was proud of its length was up to the Black Sea. This is one huge temptation to hit this region as none of us done that previously. We would hit the Ukrainian roads doubtlessly, but how to cross un-crossable Abkhasia? Funny enough, although we would often tick ‘Caucasian white’ box in filling the documents, not being Caucasians we are not allowed to crisscross Russia-Azerbaijan, Russia-Abkhasia-Georgia borders. Some time ago our parents needed no papers to voyage this ‘brotherhood’ region.
Or maybe Ukraine, Russia and then Kazakhstan? Skipping a huge part of Silk road?
China seems to be a via point in one way or another. We are even considering doing Chinese visa in Lithuania. Unfortunately, we would get it immediately (in a week), and it would expire in three months, which then limits our freedom. That is the price of safely gaining a visa.
The land of the longest wall then is the almost the last point of our in/definite plan. Malaysia? Indonesia? Australia and New Zealand? Then Americas and Africa. It would all depend on the transport: cars and ships and further adventures. Uncertainty which angles are not calculated so far. Let’s focus on our first part.
If anyone has any suggestions, known subtleties how to cross one or the other region, we would appreciate a lot!
